South Fork Lakes

Sunday July 27, 2003

Sunday: Today we explore the cirque area which encompasses the South Fork Lakes. Valentine lake lies at the opening of this cirque to the north. The steeped walled granite cliffs which make up the cirque dominate the horizon as we look south over Valentine lake.

Sunday morning view from camp.

Smaller lake which drains into Valentine.

Group shot with the largest South Fork Lake in background (10,500 ft). Directly behind the glacier is Lizard Head Peak, part of the Cirque of the Towers.

Mountain flowers were abundant. Continental divide follows the ridge line to right of the glacier.

Another South Fork Lake.

A nice fat cutthroat poses for a picture, then put back in.

Sherpa Tim cooks up his high country specialty which was enjoyed by all.

The deer were not shy. Evening and nighttime visits were the norm.
